Even if you’re having a Tupperware container full of kale, eating alone in front of your computer at work can’t be good for you. Sad Desk Lunches are exactly that – depressing! At EFM, we carve time out of our busy schedules to share meals. From catered breakfasts every week to lunchtime adventures, we’ve found that breaking bread together as a team brings a lot more than you’d think to the table.
It Gets Us Out Of The Office
Why live in San Diego – and pay the sunshine tax – if you’re just going to hide away in an office all day. Our mass coffee migrations and midday strolls to our favorite lunch spots get us away from our desks and into the world. For some of us, the brisk walks may be the only exercise we get all day.
It’s A Great Way To Learn Together
Whether you call it a “Lunch & Learn” or an “Eatin’ Meetin’,” the words “lunch provided” are guaranteed to bring the team together. And putting a sandwich in someone’s hand is a great way to pull them away from their laptop. Our lunchtime sessions cover a variety of topics ranging from Webinars on the Dos and Don’ts of Responsive Design to the benefits of going to the Chiropractor. Everyone walks away feeling full and with a new piece of knowledge.
We Learn About Each Other
The truth comes out at lunchtime. Where else would you learn that someone hates tomatoes with a fiery passion or does Improv on the weekends? Eating together gives us the chance to get to know each other outside of the confines of client meetings and design reviews. Just one round of “Would You Rather?” can reveal a lot about a person.
The Company That Eats Together Stays Together
Regular lunch outings are a simple workplace perk that can strengthen your culture. It’s an easy, impactful way to thank the team and encourage them to keep up the good work. It’s also a relaxed venue for people across departments and at all levels to interact, share ideas and bond - team building at its finest. We’ll take splitting appetizers over trust falls any day.
